Default Easytrieve Packed Data Question

I have an Easytrieve Program that has a field called Iss-DT, Renewal-Dt, and Exp Dt. These field are formatted as packed data fields with the format, Iss-DT w 4 P. All of the fields have w 4 P. I want to change thse fields unpacking them and re-formatting as a numeric field. These are really date fields. But, in order to use If statements to pull records, I need for these fields to be unpacked.

Any suggestions from anyone out there.
