Getting the mac adress of the client

Hello,
I'am developping a j2ee application (commercial management of many point of sale )and i have to identify the client accessin to the application from his office.I choosed the mac address ( those adress are previously in database),but the problem is how to get this adress from the client to the server.
(Using a java applet is a solution proposed but i want others methods)
