Can JSF be used in creating client/server java gui applications? Does it require a web server?

well i dont know about jsf but i am quite sure that creatin client/server java application does not necessarly require web server. For more you can send your problem in detail.

To use JSF you will require a container (server supporting jsf), I've never seen anyone using a non-web server with jsf, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Why are you against a web server? Are you implementing your own protocol?

Also, what kind of results are you returning? What kind of client will you be using?
