Default onmouseover trigger event

Is the following possible using Javascript:

I want to allow a user to mouseover some text and have it trigger an image map to change color.

For example, on the following site http://www.toronto-bia.com/bias/index.php , if I mouseover the text Beaches, I want a dot within the image to change to a different color.

If so, would you happen to know a site where I can learn more about this subject.

Thanks.
