Default Dynamic in a limited environment?

Greetings,

I am building a web site for a friend of mine and he wants to be able to put news items on his site as a way to keep it fresh. No problem right? Wrong! His host is a bare bones host. Does not allow CF or ASP. It does allow php, but I have never doen anything in php. So here is my question...

I was thinking of building a form of some sort in either a text or js file that would be as easy as possible for my friend to update. Now, they do have MySQL, but to my knowledge, there is no way to pull db data with just js.

Any thoughts? Anyone? Anyone?

As this is a JS forum, I guess you could look at using some kind of AJAX approach whereby your friend updates his data into XML files and then this is rendered to the screen, a lot of JS coding though to get effectively a CMS solution, you may be better off trying one of the off the shelf PHP CMS tools.
