Default Uploading videos!!

O Hi,
     I am trying to build a website for my summer project, the concept is same as that of www.youtube.com or videos.google.com.

But i have some questions in mind,

1). How do i transfer the file from my machine to the server that is hosting my site. should I use FTP and if yes how do I do that,
or there is some other way how we do it.

2). While retreving the file from the server when I play it on the page wont it be slow if I use FTP.
or there is another answer to whatever I am thinking.

Plz reply if you have some better idea...

have fun ,

I think your looking for a way to upload your media with a form. You need a HTML form and some serverside programming to upload your files such as PHP,ASP or Java.
this is an example of your HTML code
<form method="POST" action="" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<input type="file" name="video">
<input type="Submit" name="Submit" value="Upload">
</form><br />
the attribute (enctype="multipart/form-data") will tell te server its about a file

good luck
