Default Problems

We have some existing Java applets that were written a long while back (few years at least) before I worked here. They are not working on one of our machines. We are viewing it though a browser (It is our website buttons). When I go into her internet, I just get red X's where the graphics should be and you cannot click them. The java handled that part of it. This page works on all our other machines consisting of Win2K and WinXP. On other machines, there is some Microsoft Virtual Machine options in the internet explorer options. This machine does not have them. Microsoft does not offer VM anymore through we have an old 4.01 copy we tried to install. It said a newer version was already there. We installed .NET and no luck. We are so stumped. Can anyone help me out. I'd rather not have to take the time now to get it out of Java and into a usable form, but if I have to, I will. Thanks a ton for any help you can offer.

Chris

I suggest you try downloading the JVM from the Sun site and test on a couple of machines. It's a lot more up-to-date than Microsoft's anyway but I've found that some applets won't run in it. The other options are to either re-write the applets to use JDK 2 or change to ActiveX or even just dhtml. Nearly 75% of applets that I've seen can be duplicated using css and JavaScript.
