Attaching Events while in designMode

Is it possible to attach events to elements while in designMode?

I need to attach mouseover & mouseout events to elements in a document with designMode on.

One thing I have discovered is that, you can but it will turn designMode off. Strangely, the designMode property will still return "on" even though it is actually off.
