Hi,

Im using beginning jsp 2.0 book.

I am using nt4 and apache tomcat 5.0.4

I cannot get the JSTL demos on pages 43 - 45 to work.

org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jstl/core cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application

The jar files from the JTSL have been copied over to my webapps lib directory and I have stopped and started server.

This book is full of errors everywhere, not happy.

Someone help, thx.

im running xp home with tomcat 5.0.5 and j2sdk1.4.1_02 and i've experienced no problems so far. I have a few compiling problems with java, but everything to do with tomcat is going just fine.

I did encounter the same problem.B4 that, i used apache tomcat 4.1.24. Every time, i want to try with jstl, I have to add some entries in my web.xml file.
There are :

<taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/fmt.tld</taglib-location>
  </taglib>

  <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/core</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/c.tld</taglib-location>
  </taglib>

  <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/sql</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/sql.tld</taglib-location>
  </taglib>

  <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/x</taglib-uri>
    <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/x.tld</taglib-location>
  </taglib>

I could not get the code on p 44 to work, but now it does. As a Win2000 user, I had installed Tomcat 5 from the zip - WRONG - you have to download and install from the .exe.
You don't need a web.xml in WEB-INF, but you do need to set JAVA_HOME, CATALINA_HOME, and CLASSPATH like the book says.
You must make a WEB-INF folder with classes and lib subfolders. And you need to download the JSTL tag libraries and copy the stuff into your WEB-INF\lib folder.
I have been cursing this book for a long time, and it was all my fault after all.
(shamefaced etc).

Another thing.
You must use core_rt, not core, for the taglib in the code on p 44.

Glad that you got things to work. And don't just blame yourself, the book does have, let us say, its foibles.
