Default Looking for help with Gnome project.

Hey everybody,

I apologize if this post is inappropriate here, but I have a project that I've recently taken up management on over at Sourceforge, and I'm searching for developers that would be motivated by the idea of the application, and willing to commit to working on it with me.

The goal of the project is to create a hierarchical note taking program, an outliner, for the Gnome desktop. There are a few of these types of applications for Linux, though none that can do quite what this project is aiming for. Many have fallen out of development, and were more oriented toward palmtop computing. The most complete form of this application, I believe, is a program called OmniOutliner for the Mac OS, which is the inspiration for the project.

http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnioutliner/

Gnome Outliner isn't trying to duplicate everything that Omni has done with their program, but to do something similar for the Gnome desktop.

I'm not a programmer. I'm a writer, and so this type of application is incredibly useful for me. I've been using Linux on my desktop machine since around 1999, and my laptop has always been a Mac. Unfortunately the last application that I use daily on my Mac that doesn't have an equivalent on my Linux desktop is Outliner. So what I'm hoping to find is another person, or some people who also recognize the incredible usefulness of this type of application for the desktop (albeit for a fairly niche user base) who is interested in getting behind the project with me.

For the programmers, their only purpose would be to write the code. Since I can't code, I'm planning on handling every other aspect of the project. Bug testing, specification (although I plan for the spec to be a collaborative effort between the developers and myself), user support, project management, and so on.

At first I'm hoping to find a lead developer who is as equally motivated by the project idea as I am, and who's willing to help me with the planning stages - figuring out milestones, versions, and a new spec beyond the existing draft spec originally created by the first project maintainer.

Here's the Sourceforge project page...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnomeoutliner/
(Note: There is some code here, that was written back when the project was first started up. It actually builds, but unfortunately doesn't do much successfully beyond that.)

...and the original draft spec written by the original maintainer of the project...
http://actsofvolition.com/files/gnomeoutliner/
(Note: The link at the top of this page that claims to link to a newer spec doesn't actually work.)

If anyone here is interested in getting involved in this project, or knows of someone who might be, I'd love to talk with you more. Also, if you happen to know of other places where I might be able to meet other developers who might be interested in helping with the application so that I can spread the word, it'd also be a great help.

Thanks,
Sak.
