Good Luck!!
You'll need to start reading up of SEO methods (search Engine Optimisation) but there is only so much you can do. You will need to carefully tailor the META tags of each page in the site, register with a variety of search engines, use keywords from the META tags in the page titles and page content, link to other sites, have other sites link to you, and more.
Even if you did all that perfectly, the other competitor sites are probably doing it too. Top ten is a struggle for a new web site.
Explain that nicely to your client.

Meta tags are a good place to start, but there are many more things you need to worry about then just Meta Tags.

I could go on and on and on about this, but as hericles said, this is probably not something you are goign to achieve straight out of the gate.

I suggest picking up Jamie's and Cristians book: Professional SEO with ASP.NET as it is a good resource for this type of thing. (Follow the link in my signature)

Socur the web as well there are plenty of forums dedicated to just SEO.
