Default Conversion of ASP.Net Project

Hi All :-)

I'm not sure if I should be posting here or under the ASP.Net forum - so please forgive me (and let me know) if I am in the wrong place...

I have just received a new PC with .Net 2005 installed on it. I am trying to convert a web application that we have done in VB.Net & ASP.Net 2003. I've already converted (not completely successful) another web app that we have just started to develop and it seems to have already converted the web.config file? On this conversion I am getting a message: "The file web.config has changed since you opened it. Would you like to save the version you have open over the changes you have on disk?" And gives me the options Save As, Overwrite, Discard in-memory changes, Cancel, Help.

I am not sure if I should overwrite or not? Can anyone offer any help?

TIA - Coleen

Go ahead with overwritting it because the changes need to be updated for the site to run properly. If you have any doubt, cancel the changes, make a copy of the entire old project and re-run the conversion.

If the conversion is in process and you dont want to cancel it, you can still go and make a copy.

Are you having a network of machines, which are having directories shared, in that case its highly possible that someone else had this file opened and changed it and then studio realizes that the file has been changed by someone other than the current editor itself. This normally can happen only in network environment.

Check and let us know.

Thanks very much. I did overwrite it and it worked. I also found that if I tried to convert the solution file instead of the project file I got a bunch of errors. I still got one error on the project conversion. We have a User Control that has two classes and one of the classes did not convert correctly. We are looking into it. I thought that the new Partial Classes supported using more than one class? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
