Default Which is better for file transfer

I m transfering XML files to/from web server through web services. Some body told me that I should use FTP instead of web services(HTTP). Please tell me which is faster and which should I use.
Thanks

It really depends on the application. Are you writing a program that does this? Explain your scenario in more detail.

Web services will have a little more overhead associated with them so will likely be less efficient.
