Default running asp.net scripts

I am a newbie, so forgive me if this posting is trivial to you.

I have uploaded a script (Service.asmx, a web service) page to my server but it wont run - Server Error on '/' Application error message. I had a look to see what programs were pre-installed on the server, and all I found was .Net Framework 1.1. Can someone pls tell me what suite of programs need to be installed on this server for ASP.net scripts to run successfully. IIS is running. Thank you.

Is there more you can share about the error message? Did the message contain any instructions? If so, did you follow them?

this is now sorted - thanks. it had to do with restrictions on running scripts on the server. what i did was to allow 'unknown extensions' as .asmx was not among the original list of permitted extensions. that did it.

ASMX not being allowed raises a red flag for me. When .NET (and support for ASP.NET) is properly installed, you shouldn't need to change anything to support that extension. It should be configured for you. You might have other problems if something wasn't installed or configured correctly.
