Default Link to database

I've installed oracle 9i database and developer 2000 v 6i on my pc using windows xp platform. I can link to oracle 7.3.4 database on HP-UX platform using sqlplus 8.0 (developer 2000), sqlplus 8.0 on oracle 9i no problem, but when I tried to use sqlplus (oracle 9i) to link to oracle 7.3.4 database, the message below appear :-

Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
Warning : produt user profile informations not loaded
You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as system

I've found and created the PUPBLD.SQL file at system user but the error message still appear. Can anybody help me on this matter.

Greetings,

This is a blind guess...
Check the parameters in the init.ora and try increasing the values for the db_buffer_blocks and shared_pool_size. (stop the DB, edit the file, and start it up again). This assumes you have control of the 7.3.4 Oracle instance.

This is more knowledgable input....
You need to keep in mind that the 9i client may not work with a 7.3.4 database. Oracle did not go out of their way to keep version 7 databases up-to-date. You should be running at least an 8i DB. If yo want to connect to the 7.3.4 database, you may simply be foreced to us an older client - either 8, 8i, or even 9, but NOT 9i.

If by 9i you mean 9.2, you cannot connect to a 7.3.4 database from a 9.2 system (later versions of 9.2 throw a more explicit error). The latest version that will connect to a 7.3.4 database is Oracle 9.0.1.
