Default IMP-00016: required character set conversion not

Error while trying to import dump file which is exported in oracle 9i.

I have a system in which oracle 8i is installed so i guess this might be the problem. ie. problem in importing to 8i from 9i dump file.
what's the solution?
whether i need to install 9i in my system? if i do so, will it cause problem on existing 8i application?

or is there any way to import the 9i dump file to 8i?

the error msg is:
----
IMP-00016: required character set conversion <type 178 to 871> not supported
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
-----

please help me sort out this problem.

Thanks in advance

Yours,
Saran

Default

What is the character set of the source database? What is the character set of the target database? What is the character set of the client that generated the export file?
