hi,

have u installed oracle in your machine. if so, sql/plus will be there in the menu. just select that. it will ask for the username and password. as u said scott/tiger is the default uname and pwd.

is that sounds good? if not, tell me the exact problem again

hi mohiddin
i think you must reinstall oracle on your system.
is your system is a client to database server or
do you have database on your system itself?
if yes freshly install oracle ,you need not give host string .
if connected to another system then configure your oracle net services
with the help of a experienced person.

hi,

yes, what htummala said is right. if you are connecting to some server on another machine over the network, you need to configure the tnsnames.ora file, so that it will connect properly using net services.

what options you chose when u install oracle? do u remember? let us know that. Don't try re-installation now. try to solve that problem without re-installation.

and one more info, there is one tool called oradim, this will start the oracle services if it is not running. try that also.
