Help for removing read_only permission

The PHP unlink function to disable the mode permissions though i have set the permissions to 0777 and also i ahve tried 0755.
But then also the permissions are not being changed...
Can anybody help me out of this hell problem????
please help me fast in the most helpful way you all can..
