Default How to script search form in PHP/MYSQL

Hi all,
jus wondering, i've no problem coding a 3rd NOrmalised database in MYSQL.

Jus wondering how best to script a search form in php?

Eg

Search for User: Tan Ah Kow

Given his UserID=23

So the form should accept search under Tan ah kow

HOw should the algorithm be like?

Eg Bubble thru T-->A-->N?? Is there a more efficient algorithm??

Was hoping to script a search field page

eg
