I have downloaded trial version of x-cart.
I have installed and got running on
Linux/APACHE server
with PHP and Mysql.

Now problem is when I am running x-cart,
then in all pages it shows ????? instead of   or a space or any
special symbol like &pond; or pound symbol.

Why this prolem is coimng out. could you please suggest me how to
rectify this.

This is a character set issue, either with PHP, the database, or your browser. Replace ???? with html entities, and avoid MS Word formatted documents that insert loads of non-standard characters into the HTML generated.
