Error using freefile
Hi!
Hello to everyone I have a 6 gb text file about 6.5 million lines and I'm reading it as binary.
like this
fr = FreeFile()
Open filename For Binary As #fr
but when I reach reading line of 2.5 million.
I got an error bad record number. is there a limit using freefile?
Thanks,
Elmer

the error is not in the FreeFile, but on reading the file, that is huge. I do not think you can handle files bigger than 4gig
where are you putting the data you are reading?

After reading the files I'll look for a particular fields using MID function. then save it again into a new text file.
Is there another way I can read the 6.5 gig?

Is that a limitation in VB6 reading only 4 gig?
Thanks,
Elmer

are you saying that you are trying to keep 6gb on memory at the same time? in a string?

Marco,
My logic is read write. after reading 1 line then write it in a new text file.
Thanks,
Elmer

sorry Elmer, I never tried to handle so big files. In our applications, we limit the file size to 4gb (that is the limit for a FAT system)
