Default how to integrate a hand-held bar code scanner

I have to integrate a hand-held bar code scanner into my inventory software which was developed in C#,ASp.Net and Sql server 2005. The purpose of this scanner is just to read the barcode and save the number which is in this barcode in a table for further use. I just want to know which will be the cheap and best barcode scanner to purchase and how will i integrate this barcode scanner into my project. Please guide and help

I don't know the answer to the first part, but with regard to how t ointegrate it, my understanding is that the bar-code reader behaves just like the input was coming from the keyboard.

Any barcode reader can be used.
You need to code keyboard event and trace crlf charcters in that event of any text box
(By default many barcode reader returns crlf after reading the code)
then u can use text box value to either retrived information from database or u can insert code to ur database, it is not very difficult to integrated barcode reader with your program

They are nothing but ascii characters, refer any ascii chart in any appendix of c/c++ book

CR; Carriage return; ascii code=13
LF; Line feed; ascii code=10
Whenever you press enter key in text box then keycode return in event is 13 (ascii code)
Visual basic has one constant defined for it "VbCrLf"
or you can directly use 13 and 10
