Default Sound Card Access.

Hello Everyone,
I am designing a guitar effects processor in VB 2005 Express. I have all of my code and algorithms nearly completed, but there is one part I cannot figure out.
I was wondering if any of you know how to access the sound card (Specifically the Mic or Line in jack), and then output that input through the computer speakers, kind of like an amplifier.
This is very important and I really need help on this, if this is even possible.

Please help,
        Sincerely,
                 --quixotic92--
