Default Assistance Understanding Timer Class

I am developing an application in VS 2005, my previous experience is in VB6 and C#. I am developing the application in VB and have noticed some changes with the timer... I understand that VS 2005 has moved over to the structure of classes, which I'm sure is better in the long run. My problem lies in understanding the class structure and how to implement a timer on a splash screen.

If there is any suggested reading or referrals to resources I'd appreciate the help thanks!

I would suggest starting with the following URL for an introduction to timers. There are three timers in the .NET system, each with slightly different behavior and use.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/tb9yt5e6.aspx

.NET has been based on classes since it's beginning (not just 2.0/VS2005).

What is your understand of classes at this point? This is a broad subject and there is plenty online to explain it.
