SMTP event based polling

Hello,

Could somebody help me on Smtp server event based polling mechanism?How do I write a code which would notify the user as soon as the mail arrives on his Smtp server instead of forwarding the mail to the mailbox?(This mail is sent to the server using HTML mailto).
