Error installing .NET 2.0
Hi,
I was trying to install SQL Server 2005 (beta version) on Windows 2000 Professional SP4. I have got the following error:
"Error 1603 installing .NET Framework 2.0"
A big log file was generated, which I could not understand.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
-Ned

Did you install a earlier version of the .NET Framework before you started the install of SQL Server?
If so, uninstall earlier versions (like the one that comes with VS.NET 2005) first.
Cheers,
Imar

Yeah, I had that problem. I was surprised that I had to uninstall .NET 2.0 framework beta to get SQL 2005 to install, but when I did that,it worked.

The version that ships with SQL Server is a little later / more recent than the one that ships with VS.NET 2005. Both have version 40607, but the revision number of the build is higher in the version that ships with SQL Server.

There's no earlier version of the .NET Framework have been installed on my PC. I looked at the Add/Remove programs list as well.
Do you think I have to install .NET Framework 2.0 separately first and then start SQL Server 2005 installation?

Did you install the 2.0 beta that comes with Visual Studio .NET 2005?

No, I don't think so. Once I removed the previous installation, things went smoothly, without the need of installing the framework first.
Did you previously install SQL Server 2005 Express? I think that both versions (Express and Normal) cannot coexist on the same machine.
Cheers,
Imar

That's true, cause I had that problem. I removed SQL 2k5 express, then to solve my problem I had to uninstall the 2.0 framework installed in VS.NET 2k5, and that worked.
Ned might that be your situation?

You know what, I did not install any 2005 software before. I have received this SQL Server 2005 (beta) in my MSDN subscription first time.
I have also tried to install .NET Framework 2.0 separately but then I got the following error:
"Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 has encountered a problem during setup"

In that case, try to contact Microsoft Support.
I think your MSDN subscription comes with a few free support calls, and at least with free access to their news groups.
Cheers,
