Default opening port 1433 for listening

Good day

My objective is to connect to a remote SQL 2000 instance. I have done this before a fair few times, this time I am pulling my hair out.

Its taken me some time to figure out the instance will only allow an ODBC named pipe connection. Its not listening on port 1433 at all, how can I open this port. Additionaly, can I make an OLEDB connection using a named pipe connetion?

wow - what a day. Over here in Australia the day has nearly finished, can anyone help me out?

TYIA

This problem is on a win 2003 server. I have read something about the default SQL instal on 2003 being different regarding TCPIP and named pipe connections - is this correct?

Sorry for chatting with myself...

Since I got no bites here, I posted this in the ASP/PRO area. If anybody is looking for a solution - it may be found at:
