There are a number of ways to do this. I like creating a data set on the sql database tied to the query of the user. So for example if you send a cookie or some sort of identifier to your user. Then the users cookie is tied to a table that has the results that the user requested. For example if they want to see all the smiths in your database. The query results in 42 smiths ordered alphabetically by first name. When they first run this query the record id's for the 42 smits are stored in a table tied to that user. You display the first 10 smiths. They click on next, your code goes to the temporary data to get the next set of ten rows. If they click on a link similar to google where they want the fifth batch of 10 rows. They get the last two smiths again from the tempory results set tied to that user. When they log off or after a period of time. You delete the query result data from the table.
