Default UDF and Stored Procedures

hey does anybody knows what is this UDF's in SQL2k?may i know when should i use Stored procedures and when should UDF's?
are they efficient than Stored procedures?

UDFs are user-defined functions. They are not a replacement for stored procedures. Take a look in the Books On-Line index under "user-defined functions" and you'll find plenty of info, including "best practices".
