Default SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Hi all,

I have a Windows server 2003 with the latest sp install and SQL server 2005 with SP2 on this server. Then I tried to install SQL server 2000 with a new instance name in the same box.

When I tried to connect to the new instance of SQL 2000 from my workstation (svrname/newinstancename), I got the following error

SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
connectionOpen (Connect())

Please help me.
Thanks.

Did you apply SP4 for SQL Server 2000 also?

I am having similar troubles with SQL server 2k and sql 05
running together. To make matters worse when I uninstalled
SQL 2k some components like SQL Service Manager failed to
uninstall and I am experiencing client connectivity troubles
with sql 2005. I installed service pack 2 but that did not help
05's connectivity to clients.

I am thinking that there are two main avenues of recourse besides
wiping the entire drive and rebuilding and putting only one sql server
version on the win 2003 platform. One is the registery and the second is to examine what system/log on accounts the sql system created. I don't think they coexist well if at all even though Microsoft tells us they do. Any one with experience in this that can help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Jim
