Sql Server Not Found or Access Denied

Hi
I am using SQL Server 2000. When I use it in LAN I can connect to the server from all nodes. But when I have to connect thru internet to a Static IP, I get the message "SQL Server not found of Access Denied".
Can anyone guide me how do I connect to a Server with static IP.
