Default Connect Seagate Crystal Report with SQL Server 200

I am using Seagate Crystal Report 7.0 to create reports. I need to upgrade one of the project from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005.
But I cannot be able to connect Crystal report 7.0 to SQL Server 2005.
What can I do for connect Crystal report with SQL Server 2005?
Whether I need to buy new version of sql server. If so which is the best version of seagate Crystal report that support both Visual Basic 6.0 and MS Sql Server 2005?
Thanks in Advance?

We are using Crystal 11 with SQL Server 2005 and it works great. Your best bet is to go with either Crystal 10 or 11, but I would suggest 11 because it has better licensing.

I do not see why you could not. We have an older app that uses Crystal 7 but we have never tried to hook SQL Server 2005 to it. I think it would work but i'm not 100% certain.

make sure your client (running crystal) has the same mdac version as is running on your sql 2005 server. Most likely it is not and it needs to be.

sorry possibly incomplete instructions:

1) make sure crystal computer using same mdac as sql 2005
2) make a new connection to the sql 2005 server and verify it as valid
3) in crystal use the functionality to set a new database location, and pick the newly created connection from step two, then do verify database in crystal.

            .UserID = sname.AppSettings("username")
            .Password = sname.AppSettings("password")
        End With
        CrTables = crReportDocument.Database.Tables
        For Each CrTable In CrTables
            crtableLogoninfo = CrTable.LogOnInfo
            crtableLogoninfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo
            CrTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crtableLogoninfo)
        Next
        CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = crReportDocument
        crParameterFieldDefinitions = crReportDocument.DataDefinition.ParameterFields
        crParameterFieldLocation = crParameterFieldDefinitions.Item("@billno")
        crParameterValues = crParameterFieldLocation.CurrentValues
        crParameterDiscreteValue = New CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue
