Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I have an installation of SQL Server 2005 Standard edition running on a Windows XP SP1. The SQL Server has been running fine for a couple of years, however, I have now encountered the error SQL Server Management Studio has encountered an error and needs to close. There have been no changes to the environment prior to this occurring. Within the event log, I see

I have tried unistalling and reinstalling the management tools, but still receive the same error. I am not really sure where to go from here. Any help on this topic is greatly appreciated.

I too had a similar problem a year back, what i did was that i upgraded my system to Windows Service Pack 2, and then i re-installed Sql Server 2005.It started working absolutely fine. Try this if you are not able to solve the problem by any other mean.Or after taking the backup, format the system once, there may be a possibility that something may have gone wrong with the OS.
