Default VB 5 vs. VB6

I already have a copy of VB6 Professional. I recently got a copy of Visual Studio 97 Professional which includes VB5. I just wanted to know what differences there are between them.

Hi,

[u]VB6 has:</u>

1. IIS and Web classes with DHTML
2. Apartment Threading (Pro, Ent), Use multiple threads
3. Persistent classes
4. Object creation on remote machines
5. Resource editor
6. ADO as a full replacement for RDO (ADO has been expanded)
7. Most of the controls allow RTL Alignment & Property in Both Desgin & Run Time modes
8. Data Environment
9. A New Function: Split
10. And many more...

Hope this helps,

Lalit

Hi,

Can you tell if there are any deprecations made in VB6. I am porting vb5 code to vb6. Are there any properties, functions, APIs, etc. that work in VB5 but are deprecated in VB6.

Thanks,
Awadhoot

Hello August97 - You might find it better to start a new post instead of latching on to a very old post.

There is at least one serious "deprecation" regarding writing windows services, but unless you are dealing with that, I haven't found any that have affected me. However - it has been almost 7 years since I last worked with VB5.

The code should "port" directly. Many of the common controls and other controls are different in VB6, and using them might require a little rework.
