Default Data Controls

Dear fellow developers:
I recently transitioned from PowerBuilder 9.0 to VB.NET 2003 and learning VB.NET 2005. I love VB custome and standard controls but what seems to be missing is general data window control. Yes there is Dataset, Datagrid and conection object but they do not come close to seamless connection as PowerBuilder provides. Creating multitable reports, particularly master/detail entry form seems way too cumbersome. Please understand, I am not trying to start an argument. All I am asking for help in using multitable reports. Any literature or sample code would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
