Default serial port programming

i am wanting to develop an sms application (sending from the pc and recieving from the mobile phone)via my serial port with vb6.
i will want guide on which mobile phone /gsm modem is recommmended and on how which at commands are required.

Try to use Comm OCX . . .i have develop once
In windows 2000 prof, you can use the hyper terminal to check
the existecies of your hardware ( GPRS ), also you can get some
information from this utilities ( at least for u to check ).
About the commands ( AT,ATDT or else ), maybe you can get it from
somewhere . . .(it's too long to write about that, sorry ).
It's simple, except with a few conversion with the input/output.
(Prepared for binary, hex / string conversion ).
