I have never had a beep on the first keypress within a listview. (Of course, I had never used one till I came across this question!)

But now I have created one, run it, and I got a beep only if I typed a letter that was not represented in the list.

You probably have your first item (not subitems) set as text, correct? Mine is an image, so it will not recognize it as a letter in the list. This is why I am getting the beep, but it only happens on the first keypress. I would like to completely cancel this if possible - nothing urgent, just irritating.
