Smile Assign Date to Mask Edit control

Dear All

I am working on vb.net 2003. I have added masked edit control in my form and set its mask property to ##/##/#### and trying to assign the current date during form load event like mskDespdate.text=date.today, but during form load, the date is not getting displayed and it is showing as empty box like " __/__/_____ ". I also tried format function like:
mskDespdate.text=format(date.today,"mm/dd/yyyy") but also the date is not getting displayed. Where i am going wrong. Kindly assist.

Regards
Sasikumar
