How do I send raw data directly to a serial port

Hello everytbody.
Can anybody help me please.

I would like to know how to print/send raw data directly to a serial port using VB.NET 2005. Full source code example would be good.

I'm trying to find full sourse code as I want to test out printing on a POS rceipt printer. I could do with some example code on just sending the words 'HELLO WORLD' to the serial port (COM1) as raw data.
