Default Ping in VC++6

Hi all-
I'm pretty new to programming. I am trying to write a program that will ping and address (URL or DNS). I cannot find anything very helpfull on how to do this. I tried to use an item called rawping
that I found but cannot get it to work.
Does anyone know of a way to run the ping command from within VC++ ?
Is ping included in an MFC ?
And finally, does anyone know where I can get a list of items (with a brief description) in the various MFCs?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
