Default Terminating an outside process.

I am having a little trouble here. I am using an activeX control to open a file in Adobe Reader. I recently changed the application from Adobe 5.0 to 7.0. The application moves files between directories. In Adobe 5.0 there was no file-lock/read-only lock, this has been changed in Adobe 7.0. When the application goes to move the files to a different directory it fails because the file has been locked by Adobe Reader. What function/method can I use to force Adobe to unlock the file or what function/method can I use to close Adobe and then re-open it.

Thanks in advance for the assistance
