Default combining a software and a programming code

i have an equipment from a company, which has a coordinator and a router.. this device comes with a software which has a some commands to be transfered between the coordinator and the router. now my problem is i don't know how to connect to the software to the programming which has to be done in VB 2005(the software must be in the back ground of the programming)... pls some one help me
