Default Resizing a dropdownlist

I wonder if it is possible to change a dropdownlists width when it is dropped down so that the whole text in each item is shown?

Normally the width of the droippeddown list is the same as specified in the "width tag". It is not a good idea to enlarge the dropdownlist at design time, soince sometimes the texts are very long.

I appreciate all input and comments
