I'm testing a Web App on my machine (XPProSP2) that accesses a Web Service and about 1 time in 5 when I first connect I'll get Access Denied (401). Pressing F5 or Back followed by submit will always connect. I do nothing between the first and 2nd submission but the 2nd one always works. I see a similar problem connecting to the Web Service from a thick-client app.

Can anyone tell me what might cause it to fail in the first place. As I say it doesn't always do it. At first I thought that it may be because there was something left hanging about on the Web Server after a previous test but noticed that it sometimes happens with my initial attempt to connect to the server after IIS has been started.

Any insights would be appreciated.
