*.dbf is SQL server database file,you can do it as follow in vb.net2002
   dim sqlconn as new sqlclient.sqlconnection
   sqlconn.connectionstring="server='local';database= NorthWold;user id=sa;password=password"
   sqlconn.open

dim sqlda as new sqlclient.sqldataadapter("select * from tablename",sqlconn)
dim DS as new dataset
sqlda.fill(ds)

sqlconn.close
