Default Wrox CDs

Hi Jim

Wanted to clarify, do the wrox book include CDs with them? I am asking this coz some 3-4 years ago, may be in 2004, I bought wrox edition for asp.net 1.1 (both professional and beginners) in India, but they didn't include any CDs with them.

If CDs are not included, wouldn't it be a nice idea to include some practical demonstration of codes in the form of CDs?

Regards
Mike

I'm not Jim but I'll reply anyway :). In general the books don't have CDs although some, like ASP.NET 2.0 Special Edition do. Although CDs can be useful they suffer from two drawbacks, they add considerably to the cost of production and, if a mistake is found, they cannot be easily updated. The main disadvantage of the alternative used by Wrox, the code download, is that many users don't have sufficient bandwidth or a reliable connection.

Joe explained it perfectly. Almost all of our books have the code on the website here at wrox.com rather than on a CD. Even the few books where we have added the cost of a CD though, we do go ahead and update the code on wrox.com too, which somewhat negates the rationale for a CD.

One note for our Indian readers: most of the time, the Wrox books you buy in India are reprinted in India by a Wrox partner or subsidiary to save you cost. Even though it may be a different ISBN and look a little different, if you bought for example "Professional ASP.NET 1.1 2004 Edition" ISBN : 81-265-0506-0 in India, that's the same book as:
Professional ASP.NET 1.1 ISBN 0764558900
with a code download here:

Thanx Joe for your time here, you are correct, I can understand the issue of production cost here. Moreover, the alterate provided as code download is always beneficial.

Jim: Thanx for your guidance for Indian users.
