Default New Book Idea: Media Formats

Thank you for publishing 'Assembly Language Professional by Richard Blum'.

I am reading the book with much enthusiasm.

How ever, in the book it speaks of using Assembly Language to reap the benefits of MMX, SSE, and SIMD processor registers and instructions under Linux for and I quote 'digital signal processing'.

How ever, I do not know of any media formats - such as .AVI for film / video - or .ogv (Linux Video Format) to exploit these processor technologies!

What I would LOVE to read about are the file formats such as .BMP .JPG .GIF for images and .AVI or .OGV for video. Also, how about the file formats for AUDIO!?

There are a whole book here for sure! Can you also make the source code a mixture of Assembly Language and C / C++? I ask this because it will compliment the Assembly Language book (By Wrox Press).

This is really something I think would enable LOTS of people to get into the media industry and start programming media applications with the SSE, SIMD, and MMX technologies.

What I was trying (but failing) to state before is the following;

1. How do you create an AVI file (or any other media file)
2. I once read a book on the format of a BMP image file. And how to load the RAW DATA into an assembly program to display on screen. THe program did not work - but it started me thinking...

So, it is this sort of thing that I would like to see in a book. This idea is free to exploit by any author on site - or by Wrox publishers or any Press for that matter.

Just make it happen!

A book detailing media formats - how to construct them from the basic binary i/o - in C and assembly language. With special use of MMX and SSE technologies.

That is something I would definitely buy and recommend to my friends to read!

Imagine - being able to code an algorithm for AVI!? The possibilities are endless.
