External Multimedia Links

How can I add a link in my XML to a quick time movie on a cd.
I tried <xref href="name_of_movie.mov">some text</xref>
and it works fine. I run into problems when I am trying to link a movie on a CD instead. Especially when I want to open the link in Mac or Windows.
