Default XT software

Hello,
I have a problem with performing one of the training tasks in the book Beginning XML.
On page 135, there is a Business-to-Business example which require that you use the software XT written by James Clark.

I have downloaded the XT software, but I have not been able to find any xt.exe file to run. I'm reading instructions on XT but I don't understand how to involve engine to make it work for me. See, www.blnz.com/xt/index.html

Would you like to help me out here with the commands that I have to use?

Best regards, Per-Olof

Look what you have to do:

You must have JDK installed on your machine.

1) Download xp.zip from http://www.jclark.com/xml/xp/index.html. This zip contains xp.jar, so, unzip it and put xp.jar onto your classpath
2) Put xt.jar onto your classpath too
3) Now from the command-line run java com.jclark.xsl.sax.Driver source.xml stylesheet.xsl

The full syntax is the following:
java -Dcom.jclark.xsl.sax.parser=your-sax-driver com.jclark.sax.Driver source stylesheet [result] [name=value][...]

I use Saxon and I think it's better: it supports many features of XSLT1.1 and is more stable, error-messages are clearer; also executable is available at: http://users.iclway.co.uk/mhkay/saxo...2/instant.html

Thank you very much Armen!
I'm currently learning how to use the benefits with XML technology, I'm going to try this out now. I'm in between jobs so I try to learn new things.

Hi jopo
You don't need any XT software to get xt.exe. i suggest you follow these steps to get XT.exe

1.go to the url http://www.wrox.com/dynamic/books/download.aspx and selet your book(Beginning XML)and click the go button

2. This will redirect you to Sample code pagev download the sample code. After downloading u get a 3412_2.zip

3. Unzip the file and in any folder and it creates a folder 3412(path is yourfolder\3412)

4. In 3412 folder go to Chapter 5 foldre there you will find xt.exe copy this file to the folder you have your exercise and run the command xt [.xml] [.xsl]

xt.exe need two parameters first one is the .xml file and second one is the .xsl file

Note: Don't double click xt.exe

You are welcome jopo.

XML is really a powerful technology and you'll feel its potential by introducing yourself to XSLT, XPath, XLink, RDF, and many other things.

Regards,
Armen
