i have XML like this

<A>
<aa>
<b>xxx<b>
<c>yyy</c>
<d>zzz</d>
<e>2</e>
</aa>
.
.
.
.
.
<A>

and when i check for the value e like this.

<xsl:param name="p" select="n/a" />

<xsl:for-each select="A/aa">
<xsl:choose>
         <xsl:when test="e = 2">
            <xsl:value-of select="$p" />
         </xsl:when>
         <xsl:otherwise>
             <xsl:value-of select="e" />
         </xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:for-each>


but it is not showing anything. can anybody tell where i am wrong

Several possible reasons, but I suspect that select="n/a" should be select="'n/a'", unless you really meant to use the path expression child::n/child::a.
